Richmond Concrete Experts handles driveways, walkways, patios, and concrete repair in Rodeo, the bayside community north of Hercules. Rodeo has a mix of older homes in the original town and newer houses on the surrounding hillsides, so the work here ranges from replacing century-old walks to building walls on sloped lots.

Rodeo, CA in Richmond, CA

Rodeo's Story

Rodeo is an unincorporated community of about 9,650 people on the eastern shore of San Pablo Bay, around 25 miles northeast of San Francisco. Its name comes from the cattle roundups of the late 1800s, when ranchers drove cattle from the surrounding hills down through the old town to a loading dock on the bay. Brothers John and Patrick Tormey bought the land in the 1860s and laid out the town in the 1890s. The 1906 earthquake devastated Rodeo, and the town rebuilt afterward. A large refinery, built in 1896, still operates there.

Concrete in the Old Town

The streets of the original town were graded more than a century ago, and many homes there have walks, steps, and driveways that have been patched over and over. Common jobs:

  • Replacing broken front walks and steps with a consistent rise and a slip-resistant finish
  • Pulling out and repouring a cracked driveway on a properly compacted base
  • Fixing settled slabs on low ground near the shoreline, where soft soils can compress under load
  • Adding a patio or a pad for parking where the yard allows

Our concrete repair page explains when patching works and when it's time to replace.

On the Hillsides

Homes on the hills around Rodeo often have sloped yards, so retaining walls and stepped walkways are common requests. A wall that holds back soil needs a real footing and drainage behind it, and taller walls need permits and engineering.

Contra Costa County Permits

Rodeo isn't an incorporated city, so permits come from Contra Costa County. We confirm what your project needs before scheduling.
