Richmond Concrete Experts is a concrete contractor working in El Cerrito, right across the line from the Richmond Annex. We pour driveways, front steps, walkways, and retaining walls, and we repair the cracked and lifted concrete that older East Bay homes tend to collect.

From 20 Feet to 934 Feet
El Cerrito rises from about 20 feet above sea level near San Pablo Avenue to 934 feet in the hills, with views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the upper streets. The Hayward Fault runs through the city. That range in a city of only 3.7 square miles means two very different kinds of concrete work:
- In the flats near San Pablo Avenue and El Cerrito Plaza: driveway and approach replacements, sidewalk repair, garage slabs, and backyard patios on mostly level lots.
- In the hills toward Wildcat Canyon: steep driveways, stepped walkways, concrete stairs, and retaining walls that create usable flat ground.
Built by Earthquake Refugees
El Cerrito was founded by refugees from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and incorporated in 1917 with about 1,500 residents. It's named for "the little hill," Albany Hill, which actually sits just over the border in Albany. Today it has about 26,000 residents, and plenty of its homes are old enough that the original walks, steps, and driveways have had a long life.
Steps and Stairs Done Right
Hillside El Cerrito homes often have long runs of front steps from the street to the door. Uneven risers, crumbling treads, and loose handrails are trip hazards. We rebuild concrete steps with consistent rise and run, proper footings, and a finish that keeps its grip in the rain. See sidewalks, steps & walkways.
Permits in El Cerrito
El Cerrito is its own city, so work in the public sidewalk, curb, or driveway approach, plus retaining walls that need engineering, goes through the City of El Cerrito. We confirm what applies before the work is scheduled.
