Richmond Concrete Experts replaces driveways, pours patios, builds retaining walls, and repairs concrete for Pinole homeowners. Pinole sits right next to Richmond's Hilltop area, a short drive up I-80, so it's part of our regular service area.

A Post-War Suburb on San Pablo Bay
Pinole is a city of about 19,000 people on the shore of San Pablo Bay. It began as a waterfront trading post in the 1850s, grew when the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in 1878, and incorporated in 1903. The big change came after World War II: construction of Interstate 80 in 1958 brought a wave of new housing, and Pinole became a mostly residential commuter suburb. The downtown still has much of its turn-of-the-century building stock, while the Fitzgerald Drive shopping district and Pinole Vista Shopping Center sit next to Richmond's Hilltop.
Driveways From the Building Boom
A lot of Pinole's housing dates from that post-war and post-I-80 growth, so many driveways, walks, and patios are original and decades old. Typical signs it's time for work:
- Cracked or sunken driveway panels, especially near the garage and the street
- A driveway approach broken up by years of turning tires
- Patios that have tipped back toward the house and hold water
- Walkway panels lifted by tree roots
Sometimes a few panels can be cut out and replaced. When most of the slab is failing, full replacement on a new compacted base makes more sense. Our concrete driveways page covers both.
Hillside Neighborhoods
Pinole Valley and the neighborhoods above the bay include sloped lots where a flat patio or parking pad means building a retaining wall. Walls over 4 feet from the bottom of the footing, or walls holding up a driveway or slope, need a permit and engineering, and drainage behind the wall is what keeps it standing.
Pinole Permits
Pinole is its own city, separate from Richmond, and handles its own permits for work in the sidewalk, curb, and driveway approach and for structural walls. We confirm what applies to your address before we schedule.
